Marous Brothers Construction Named Winner of The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) bestows the Willoughby, OH– The AGC, sponsored by AON Construction Services Group, on March 6th during their 90th Annual Convention in San Diego, CA, recognized the top construction projects of America. Marous Brothers Construction, along with its minority partner, Jenkins Construction, garnered the top award in the building renovation category for their work on the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel and Condominiums in Detroit, Michigan. The AGC Build America Award is considered the most prestigious recognition given for excellence in the construction industry and recognizes the highest achievements in construction for state-of-the-art advancement, project management, innovation in construction techniques or use of materials, safety record, contribution to the community, superiority in client service, rising to the challenge of a difficult job, and environmental sensitivity. Each entry is evaluated, and winners are chosen, by industry peers. Eighty projects were submitted in several categories covering both new and renovation construction. This year’s crop of entries yielded only thirteen Build America Awards and four merit citations. The Book Cadillac Hotel was once one of the grandest hotels in the country during its height of popularity in the 1920’s, ‘30’s and ‘40’s. Having fallen into disrepair and eventually shuttered for over two decades, the 32-story building was facing the wrecking ball until Marous Brothers Construction was able to offer a creative approach to value engineering and cost control to make the renovation a reality. The once heralded elaborate ballrooms were completely rebuilt using original drawings, historic photos and plaster casts from the few details that remained after years of decay. The renovated Westin Book Cadillac Hotel and Condominiums opened its doors in October of 2008, bringing jobs and hope that this remarkable project will be the catalyst for future development in the once vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan. |
