During the 1920s, when the 32-story Book Cadillac Hotel opened its doors in Detroit, it was tallest building in the state, the tallest hotel in the world and, in terms of square footage, the largest of its kind outside of New York City. In its days of glory, the hotel featured its own radio station that was housed on its top floor, hosted five different presidents as well as numerous movie stars and sports legends.
Having been vacant for over two decades, since closing its doors in 1984, new hope has arisen that the Book Cadillac Hotel, once grandest of Detroit's downtown hotels, will be restored. Intense negotiation and serious activity have taken place to assemble resources in order to renovate this Detroit legend into a combination hotel and condominium complex.
The historic renovation of the former Book Cadillac Hotel into the new Westin Book Cadillac Hotel has sparked great interest and admiration among residents of Detroit. Floors 7 through 23 will function as the 455 room hotel, while floors 24 through 29 are being designed as 67 for-sale luxury condominiums. This will allow patrons and residents alike can have access to hotel amenities such as restaurants, the fitness center, laundry and valet services all under one roof.

Over the years, a number of Developers and General Contractors have expressed interest in the building, but have never been able to make anything materialize, within budget. Marous Brothers Construction became involved with this project when it became apparent to the Developer and his Architect that a fresh, creative approach to value engineering and construction cost control would be required in order to make the Book Cadillac Renovation a reality. We, along with our minority partner, Jenkins Construction, immediately instituted weekly Design Team meetings with the Owner, Architect, and Consultants to evaluate and select the most appropriate and cost efficient construction methods and technologies. Additionally, Marous Brothers Construction offers considerable schedule compression and cost savings through the substantial amount of work that will be self-performed by our Carpentry and Interior Finishes Divisions.
The highly anticipated restoration of this faded queen of the Detroit hotels began in the summer of 2006 and opened in October of 2008. Construction continues on the upper floor condominiums.
