Marous Brothers Construction completed the African Elephant Crossing Exhibit for Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, creating a five‑acre habitat and conservation center that significantly expanded and redefined the zoo’s elephant experience. The project combined new construction with partial preservation of the former Pachyderm Building, incorporating portions of the original structure into a 70,000‑square‑foot visitor and care center while delivering immersive exhibit features such as the Savanna Range, Mopani Range, Crossing Gate, and an African village modeled after Botswana. The work required extensive coordination within an active zoo environment, along with specialty systems for animal safety, visitor circulation, and exhibit operations, including hydraulic gates, advanced filtration, and custom mechanical and electrical design tailored to the needs of large animals.
