Dedicated young adult and children’s spaces are glass enclosed with a shared program room. A large dividable meeting room and four smaller study rooms offer many options for tutoring, collaboration, meetings and programs. As visitors enter the building, the space unfolds to a vaulted, double-height area featuring a grand fireplace. Located here are the adult collection, a vended café, various types of seating, public computers and access to a covered outdoor seating area overlooking a pocket park and a future Village Green. The west side of the building features large windows in the children’s area, young adult spaces, and the meeting rooms providing beautiful views to the wooded area along Cahoon Creek. The west side of the building features large windows in the children’s area, young adult spaces, and the meeting rooms, providing beautiful views to the wooded area along Cahoon Creek. The second floor is accessed by an ornamental staircase or elevator. Adjacent to the reading loft, patrons can access the rooftop patio highlighting a living roof and elevated views of the surrounding park. Careful selection of exterior materials such as horizontal lap siding, a stone perimeter base and fireplace, shake siding accents on the circular turret, and a standing seam metal roof generates a building design that reinforces the Bay Village vernacular. In keeping with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s dedication to reducing impact on the environment, this project sought LEED certification so, with that in mind, material selections had to be sustainability-focused. As a self-performing carpentry and interior finishes contractor, Marous Brothers Construction was hired to complete two contracts on this project: the first, framing/drywall and, the second, exterior siding. This craftsmanship entry focuses on the work related to the siding installation at the new Bay Village Library.
